Healthcare: Problem and Solution
By: Lolly J. Leger
Community Hospitals are currently at great financial risk.
As time passes, there are fewer and fewer health insurers. This creates a problem for Community Hospitals
Health Insurers are paying Community Hospitals less and less causing huge financial strain for the hospital.
The Community Hospital contracting with a competitive health care product, Community Health Shield.
Community Health Shield contracts with Community Hospitals to pay them a set contracted (capitated) amount monthly. The hospitals job and motivation ( you get the behavior you reward) in this scenario is to keep the assigned population as healthy as possible.
This will achieve 2 results:
- A healthier community population
- A higher profit for the community hospital.
Community Health Shield has rates that are approximately 20% lower than other carriers. This cost advantage is achieved by outstanding underwriting.
Another plus for the Community Hospital is that they receive 50% of the program profit at the 18 month point or 6 months after the policy year ends. The other 50% goes to the insured employers.
This program, Community Health Shield is relatively new and is sold/distributed by Independent Insurance agents contracted thru, Group Health, Inc.
